Fulfilling Our Mission: Translating Your Compassion into Community Action
The purpose of this training is to provide basic information to potential disaster volunteers and members of other local agencies to the role of the Red Cross in the community's actions in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies and disasters. It provides the foundation of service delivery standards for the American Red Cross by considering the Fundamental Principles and Values of the Red Cross and how they would apply throughout the disaster cycle (prepare, respond and recover).
Mass Care Overview
(Pre-requisite: FOM) The purpose of this training is to provide basic information about the activities of the Mass Care function. Participants will learn about the skills and abilities needed by mass care workers and how they can get started in their local chapter (MC I)
Shelter Operations
(Pre-requisites: FOM, MC I) The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross and other agencies' staff to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team, to meet the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster. (SO)
Shelter Simulation
(Pre-requisites: FOM, MC I, SO) The purpose of this training is to provide participants an opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful shelter operation. (SOS)
Disaster Assessment
(Pre-req: FOM) The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross paid and volunteer staff to serve as Damage Assessment workers to obtain and report damage assessment information and provide operational support on disaster relief operations (DA I).
Family Services: Providing Emergency Assistance
(Pre-requisite: FOM) The purpose of this course is to introduce the participant to the Family Services function. Participants will learn the skills and tools needed to conduct an effective client interview. (FSEA)
