Nearly 400 times a year, day or night, Disaster Volunteers of the American Red Cross of Northern NJ respond to disasters throughout our jurisdiction. Many of these incidents are highly destructive multi-unit fires. During the past few years, we have responded to floods, plane crashes, brush fires, blizzards and windstorms. Our disaster team volunteers assist at least 2,000 people every year.

The American Red Cross provides for the immediate emergency needs of disaster victims. We make sure that everyone has a place to stay, food and clothing. We also make sure that people have their prescription medications and eyeglasses. Red Cross disaster workers issue referrals to community agencies that provide other types of assistance to disaster victims.

Volunteers provide this assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All Red Cross disaster relief is free of charge, made possible by donations from the community. The Red Cross is not a government agency.
