The American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey is inviting high school-aged youth throughout northern New Jersey to participate in its tenth annual Youth Leadership Conference from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 14 at the Red Cross chapter house at 209 Fairfield Rd., Fairfield, NJ. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.
The conference is an opportunity for youth to develop leadership skills learn important information about applying to college, and learn about volunteer opportunities through the Red Cross.
Youth speakers from "Spark the Wave" will offer hands-on activities and presentations on “Motivating Groups” and “The Importance of Communication.” Spark the Wave is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping teens take the lead in meeting the needs of their communities.
Emily Wolper, educational consultant for E. Wolper Inc., will present “The College Admissions Maze: Your Questions Answered,” offering guidance on how to write a college essay, why SAT scores matter, and the importance of extracurricular activities; she will answer questions from participants on the admissions process.
Staff from the Red Cross will provide guidance on community involvement through volunteering.
The fee for the conference is $10, and all student attendees will receive a certificate of attendance for three service hours. Enrollment is limited.
