The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

The American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey responds to over 350 disasters each year throughout Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic and Warren counties.

 

Our Chapter services include disaster relief, blood services, disaster and emergency preparedness training, health and safety courses, military and international services, Braille transcription and volunteer and youth opportunities.

 

With service centers in Fairfield, Ridgewood, Jersey City, Paterson, Morristown and Belvidere, we have the ability to assist the 3.5 million people residing in the communities we serve.

 

During the 2008 fiscal year, our Chapter provided relief for 2,580 individuals and families displaced by disaster. We trained over 65,000 people in disaster response and health and safety training and collected 5,735 pints of life saving blood.

 

The Red Cross is led by volunteers and that is why we are able to make such effective use of donor dollars. We depend on the generosity of the American public through volunteerism and donations.

 

The American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey is chartered by the U.S. Congress, is not a government agency and receives little or no government funding. Donations of time, money, and blood from others make our humanitarian work possible.

 

As a Regional Chapter located west of New York City, The American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey prepares local residents for emergencies large and small. Our surrounding community chapters include  Colonial Crossroads, Millburn-Short Hills, Montclair-Glen Ridge-Nutley, Sussex County, and Westfield Mountainside. This enables us to recruit from an extensive volunteer base, expand service delivery, and educate and prepare our communities.
