Upon successful completion of the course each participant receives Lifeguard and First Aid certifications valid for 3 years, as well as CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification valid for 1 year.
Prerequisites:
*Be at least 15 years of age by the last scheduled session of the instructor course.
*Successfully complete the precourse session Including the following:
1. Swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order:
·100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick. Rhythmic breathing can be performed either by breathing to the side or to the front.
·100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence.
·100 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke. The 100 yards may be a mixture of front crawl and breaststroke.
2. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

In keeping with today's fast-paced information age, the American Red Cross has developed the Blended Learning First Aid/CPR/AED Program- a new way to offer Red Cross First Aid, Adult CPR and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) training ONLINE.
Red Cross Blended Learning is flexible and self paced and best of all, it is available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Course-takers have the option of going through the lessons in full or abbreviated form and can test out of lessons as well. Web-based training enables course-takers to access courses at their convenience.
The first portion of the training is completed online (14 day window), so each course participant can take the training from most computers meeting the minimum operation system requirements: Windows 2000, Window XP, or Mac OS X (10.2); Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 or higher or Netscape 6.2 or higher (AOL browser not supported); Flash 5.0 or higher content player; Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher.
For the second part of the training, a Red Cross instructor conducts a skills session where participants' skills are practiced and assessed. In order to be eligible to participate in the skills segment of the class students must successfully complete all sections of the web-based segment including the final exam prior to participating in the skills segment of the class. Students must bring a copy of their completion certificate from the web-based segment to the skills session. Attendance at the skills session is mandatory in order to recieve certificates.
